Wanetta Stroo - born July
1st 1963 in Belleville Ont.
Wanetta lived mostly in
small rural towns in Ontario until moving to Medicine Hat,
Alberta in 1976. She also lived in Edmonton and small towns
in Sask. One day she discovered B.C. and eventually
settled in Golden in 1980 where she met and married her
first husband. He was a very talented artist and musician
and taught her a little guitar in her late teens. He
seemed to think she had no rhythm… so, discouraged and
broke she pawned her guitar. But, she never stopped
loving music! She spent many hours with his bands
because their house was always the jam house. She also
traveled on the road with one of his bands for about 6
months helping with sound and lighting. They moved to Revelstoke
with their 9 month old daughter Chitarra (Latin for
guitar) in 1988. A year later, after 9 years, their
marriage had ended.
On New Years Eve 1992 she
met her soul mate Marty. His band was playing in a local
venue where she and her family saw in the New Year. She
knew that night they would be together.
She use to pick up
Marty’s guitar and noodle around with tidbits she
remembered. One day he told her to cut her nails he was
going to teach her to play. With a cheap guitar so began
Wanetta’s musical adventure at age 37, it is never too
late to learn!.
She started a band called “Transparent Trixie” with
Marty’s drummer’s wife and a couple other female
friends. They learned and played together for about 5
years, it was a great experience. Marty would teach
Wanetta a song and she would teach it to the band. They
did a couple of free gigs but never really got out of
the rehearsal hall. She practiced every day; she really
wanted to be good as this it was secretly something she
always wanted. One day Marty tells her she has
progressed enough that she could have a new guitar and
be in a band with him! They knew they wanted Kaylee on
vocals.
Wanetta grew up listening
to her parent’s country music, Kitty Wells, Conway
Twitty, Loretta Lynn and the like. Her grandfather and
uncle were in bands but did not live in the same town.
She used to love to go visit and play with all the
instruments in the basement. Wanetta used to hide away
in her room and listen to a US radio station that played
all the popular music in the 70’s like Motown and Pop. →

When she was about 10 an
older friend introduced her to Super Tramp, Sweet,
Streethart and many other heavier bands. This friend got
her hooked on “The Midnight Special” with Wolfman Jack.
She was 14 when she heard “Heart’s - Crazy on You” for
the first time. In the ‘80’s she got into the heavier
rock and to this day it is still her favorite music to
play and listen to. There are so many great songs and
musicians that it is hard to name favorites.
Wanetta has written
poetry for as long as she can remember, she does love to
rhyme, and it has always been good for her soul. She
entered a poetry contest in 1995 and had her poem “The
Seed” published in the anthology “After the Storm” now
The Seed is a song that will appear on their next CD. She entered
another poetry contest this past year and came in third.
That too was published (The Lioness) and she received a
bronze medallion.
It took Marty and Leslie
getting her drunk on whiskey one night to finally share
her poetry, after an hour they had their first song
“Heavy Sigh”. It got a little easier to share her
writing after that. She always thought of her poetry as
guts on paper and it’s difficult to share that. Most of
the lyrics on this CD are from her past poetry that she
tweaked and refreshed, thus they chose to call it
“Past Lives”.
