Leslie Wilkins grew up
in the suburbs of Toronto, where her life-long love
affair with music developed at an early age. From
hearing Beatle records to being taken to symphony
performances, Leslie was hooked. Over the years,
other influences emerged, listening to bands such as
Led Zeppelin, CSNY, Steely Dan and Heart, and later,
genres such as world beat and funk.
Leslie’s interest in
drumming emerged in the mid nineties, after her move
to BC several years earlier. Having already dabbled
in some piano and guitar lessons, Wilkins now notes “I
always loved playing guitar and singing harmonies with
my sister, and also, playing drums in a trio with
friends... a bit of jazz, gypsy swing, or some Led Zep
if the mood struck us”.
Following her move to
Revelstoke in 2002, Leslie found there was a thriving
after-hours music scene and would occasionally drop in
to drum at one of the local pub’s jam nights. Marty
and Wanetta were also a part of that scene, so it was
only a matter of time before they approached her to
join them in forming a band. Leslie agreed, and about
a year’s worth of practices later, Blind Spot was
primed and ready to rock.
